CARROLL – Playing for a third straight day, the St. Edmond girls tennis team was clipped by Carroll Kuemper here Thursday, 5-4.
Sophia Schlienz, Olivia Andrew and Kaci McGonegle all earned wins in singles, as Abby Huss and Emmersyn Peters paired up for a doubles victory.
Playing without senior No. 1 Chloe Palmer, the Gaels bumped everyone up. Schlienz scored a straight-set win at No. 2 singles over Marissa Anthofer, 6-1, 6-4, as Andrew won at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0. McGonegle also had a straight-set win.
"The girls were gassed," SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. "We just weren't on our game overall. Hopefully, though, this will be a wake-up for the postseason to not take anyone lightly."
St. Edmond now turns its attention to regionals, heading to Pella on Wednesday for singles and doubles.
