CEDAR FALLS -- The Fort Dodge girls tennis squad competed in a Class 2A individual regional tournament here on Wednesday.
"I was proud of the girls and the way they fought," said FDSH head coach Julie Astor. "The scores do not indicate how well they played. Competition was tough; Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids Kennedy are solid teams – especially Cedar Falls.
"The girls held their ground pushing many games to deuce, but fell short."
Senior Teagan Loots and sophomore Leah Myer picked up a victory in doubles for the Dodgers. Loots and Myer defeated Mason City's Lily Santamaria Hernandez and Isabella Villarreal, 6-2 and 6-4.
The FDSH tandem then lost their next match to the Cedar Falls duo of Indre Jankynas and Ayla Suiter, 6-0 and 6-0.
"Loots and Myer did pick up a nice win," Astor said. "That Mason City duo improved significantly since our regular-season match. Their second match, they ran into a great, well-coached Cedar Falls team.
"This didn't end the way any of us had hoped, but our season is not done."
The other doubles team for Fort Dodge included seniors Brooklyn Kaloupek and Grace Rivera. Kaloupek and Rivera lost 6-1 and 6-2 to Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Frankie Cerretti and Avery Jennings.
In singles action, senior Mia Carpenter fell to Katie Hubbs, 6-3 and 6-3. Senior Evah Nostrom was ousted by Taelyn Scholten of Cedar Falls, 6-0 and 6-0.
The Dodgers are back in action on Saturday at Sioux City West for a Class 2A team regional meet.
