WATERLOO - Fort Dodge pitched the football equivalent of a perfect game in the first half here on Friday, overwhelming Waterloo East with 43 unanswered points on its way to a 43-14 victory over the Trojans inside Memorial Stadium.
The Dodgers (3-0 overall) put on an offensive clinic and completely silenced an East squad that had scored 68 points at Marshalltown the week before. Senior quarterback Tru McBride completed 14 of 16 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in the first two quarters alone, while classmate Will McElroy had 68 yards and two scores on the ground.
Senior Kyree Rochon had a pair of scoring receptions from McBride spanning 21 and 18 yards.
The FDSH defense did the rest. The dynamic playmakers for the Trojans were held completely in check, as East managed only 10 yards of total offense before intermission.
The Dodgers had five tackles for loss, led by two sacks from senior Alex Beekman and another by classmate Jayce Skow.
Junior Reggie Pederson got the ball rolling immediately with a 71-yard kickoff return to start the contest for Fort Dodge. Junior Amari McCaleb recovered a fumble.
Junior Spencer Smith ended the first half with a 7-yard TD reception form McBride.
McBride finished with 209 passing yards. McElroy had 92 on the ground.
Head coach Nik Moser was able to use his reserves liberally in the second half, including for the entire fourth quarter.
This was the 68th and possibly final meeting between the Dodgers and East on the football field. The old Big 8 rivals first met in 1932.
East and West are merging to form Waterloo United in 2027-28.
Fort Dodge has taken eight straight from the Trojans since the matchup was renewed in 2015. The Dodgers are 6-0 against East since 2021.
