SIOUX CITY -- The Fort Dodge girls tennis team scored a convincing 5-2 victory in Class 2A regional action here Saturday over Sioux City West.
Brooklyn Kaloupek and Charlotte Breeser, along with the doubles team of freshmen Evie Piton and Paisley Smith, started things off with wins. Dodgers Evah Nostrom, Leah Myer and Grace Rivera clinched it in singles.
"We adjusted to their play and picked up a nice win," FDSH head coach Julie Astor said. "I told the girls if we focus and play our game, our season would continue. Our two freshmen, Piton and Smith, started things off with a solid win.
"These two are getting better and better each day. They will be fun to work with the next three years."
Kaloupek and Breeser won 6-1, 6-3, with Piton and Smith earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Nostrom scored a victory in a super-tiebreak, as did Myer. Rivera swept her opponent, 6-0, 6-1.
"Breeser and Kaloupek did a great job," Astor said. "Nostrom picked up a hard-fought win at No. 2 singles, coming up clutch in several tough situations.
"Grace went out strong from her first serve and never looked back. Leah closed it out at No. 5 singles and was focused, playing one of her best matches."
The Dodgers head to West Des Moines Dowling on Wednesday.
