Dodger swimmers defeat Algona

ALGONA -- Fort Dodge's Annika Weisberg got her first taste of victory at the varsity level on Thursday night.

The Dodger freshman, who attends school at Webster City, prevailed inc the 200-yard freestyle race.

Weisberg's gold, plus five other event wins, pushed victorious Fort Dodge across the finish line, 100-62.

"Annika had a great swim and to see her get her first win as a freshman is awesome," said FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont. "We had a lot of different girls compete and pick up some varsity points. We had a handful of girls with injuries and illness. Norah (Fishburn) and Ellen (Townsend) stepped in.

"It felt really good to get a win. We are going into a full week of no meets, so it's a great confidence boost and gives us positive energy."

Kylen Lubensky, a Manson Northwest Webster senior, was a double winner for the Dodgers, claiming gold in the 200 IM (2:31.78). She also won the 100 freestyle (1:07.77). Makayla Knox was the second Webster City winner, as the eighth-grader first in the 500 freestyle at 6:17.80.

Karlee Pearson, also a Manson Northwest Webster senior, was also an individual champ, winning the 100 backstroke in 1:14.93.

The Dodgers finished the meet with a gold in the 400 freestyle relay. The quartet of Lubensky, Pearson, Knox and senior Teagan Loots touched the wall in 4:21.38.

The Dodger team of Breanna Kalvig, Amelia Lincoln, Norah Fisburn, and Adrian Bohlmann (2:38.13) grabbed second in the 400 free relay.

Pearson (27.42) was second in the 50 freestyle. Loots (1:07.77) was a runner-up in the 100 freestyle, Adrian Bohlmann (7:05.62) was second in the 500 freestyle, and Lincoln (1:24.61) did the same in the 100 backstroke.

The foursome of Lubensky, Pearson, Loots and Knox earned silver in the 200 freestyle relay (1:56.53).

The Bulldogs picked up five victories. They started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, with Cora Deardorf, Ella Welp, Lilly Elness, and Kinzee Thilges clocking a 2:12.79.

Elness, Riley Schechinger, Thigles, and Welp touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:55.50).

Welp was a double winner. She captured gold in the 50 freestyle (26.95), and 100 breaststroke (1:14.38). Elness was champ in the 100 butterfly (1:13.14)

The Dodgers are now off until Oct. 6 when they travel to Des Moines Roosevelt.
