DODGE CITY, Kan. -- A 21-point fourth-quarter rally allowed the Dodge City football team to pull away for a 38-24 victory over No. 10 Iowa Central here on Saturday.
The Tritons (3-2 overall) had taken a three-point lead by scoring 14 unanswered points themselves in the third period to erase a 17-10 halftime deficit. The Conquistadors didn't panic, though, seizing control down the stretch.
Dodge City established its presence on the ground with 194 rushing yards on 57 carries. Iowa Central had only 215 yards of total offense.
Quadrick Jones had a 71-yard touchdown for the Tritons, who had their winning streak snapped at three games. Gabe McWilliams hit TyJohn Brooks for a 26-yard scoring strike to put the Tritons up 24-17 before the Conqs began their comeback.
McWilliams threw for 127 yards and a pair of TDs, also hitting Will Graunke from eight yards out. Anderson Trejo got the scoring started with a 38-yard field goal in the opening quarter for Iowa Central.
Karsten Bernholtz was the Tritons' leading tackler, and Chase Pearsall recorded a sack. Pearsall and Aden Willis both had 2.5 tackles for loss.
Dodge City's Joshua Taylor rushed 26 times for 119 yards.
The Tritons are off this coming week, and will next play at Garden City on Oct. 10.
