Fort Dodge got - and took - whatever it wanted against Webster City in its home opener on Friday.
Head coach Nik Moser's squad racked up over 500 yards of offense and forced three turnovers in a 57-0 rout of the Lynx on a sweltering night inside Dodger Stadium.
Senior tailback Will McElroy rushed for 236 yards on only 11 carries, scoring twice as Fort Dodge (2-0 overall) put 43 points on the board in the middle two quarters alone. While the running game produced 319 yards at nearly 14 yards a pop, Tru McBride was also getting the job done through the air.
McBride completed seven passes for 185 yards and a touchdown covering 80 yards to sophomore Mason Hughes. The Wayne State (Neb.) College recruit also found his way into the endzone four times on the ground.
McBride has now scored nine total times in the first two weeks - both FDSH routs. The Dodgers pummeled Mason City last Friday, 36-6.
Sophomore linebacker Mykel Benedict intercepted two passes to spearhead a Fort Dodge defense that didn't allow a single point or completion. The Lynx (0-2) had 142 rushing yards, but it took them 47 tries to get there.
Hughes, who hauled in two long catches against the Riverhawks a week ago, had another big game with four catches for 113 yards. Senior tight end Zak Jorgensen caught a pair of McBride passes for 58 yards.
Freshman signal-caller Jerry Crockett entered the contest in the fourth quarter and scampered 50 yards for a touchdown on his first varsity touch.
Webster City, which defeated the Dodgers in four consecutive seasons from 2021-25, struggled for the second consecutive week on both sides of the ball. Senior Kaleb Hansen had 60 yards on 20 carries to lead the way, with Luke Blake adding 34 yards on a pair of late runs.
Coyce Bertran had 49 yards on the ground. Fort Dodge edged the Lynx last season in Webster City, 7-6.
Senior Javion Soppeland intercepted a pass for the second consecutive contest for the Dodgers, who head to Waterloo East on Friday. The Trojans pummeled Marshalltown last night, 68-22.
