Tuesday night was about honoring Chloe Palmer, Abby Huss and Morgan Lewis for the St. Edmond volleyball program.
On the court, the Gaels dropped a North Central Conference match to 15th-ranked (Class 2A) and unbeaten Garner-Hayfield/Ventura.
Scores were 25-16, 25-13 and 25-21.
Before the start of the match, St. Edmond (7-12 overall, 2-6 in the NCC Pride Division) recognized Palmer, Huss and Lewis.
"Those three have really meant a lot to St. Edmond volleyball," Gael head coach Lindsay Heffernan said. "The coaches gave them a note and a basket beforehand, and we just told them that we appreciate everything they have done for us.
"Chloe, Abby and Morgan have been tremendous leaders for our team."
The Cardinals (26-0, 8-0) used a balanced attack to keep the Gaels off-balance early. Emma Schumacher led with 11 kills, as Reese Schleusner had nine and Sadie Britson six. Molly Maurer and Kailyn Byrorn each chipped in four.
For St. Edmond, Eden Horn tallied 12 kills and two blocks, Huss had 10 assists, and Rihanna Myers tallied nine assists with two kills.
Olivia Andrew finished with four kills and Palmer three. Emerie Horn added three blocks.
"Garner-Hayfield/Ventura is a very good team that doesn't make a lot of mistakes," Heffernan said. "I felt like we did a good job of challenging them, but we didn't keep the ball in play enough.
"That’s something we need to continue to work on. We have a lot of talent and skill, so we need to show that out on the court."
The Cardinals closed out each set strong, winning six of the final eight points of the first. In the second and third sets, they scored the final four.
Next action for St. Edmond will be on Tuesday when they head to Hampton for a quadrangular with Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Eagle Grove and Webster City.
