Wolverines pull away from Gaels

The opening night of the 2026 high school football season left plenty of questions for the St. Edmond football team.
That was to be expected, though, after graduating a strong senior class.
A quick swing in momentum helped West Bend-Mallard secure a 60-26 victory over the Gaels here Thursday night inside Dodger Stadium.
Following a turnover on downs, the Wolverines strung together a six-play drive that consisted of all runs, rebuilding their advantage to double digits at 38-26. From there, quarterback Trent Morey added his fifth total score of the night early in the fourth.
Morey had three rushing scores and two in the air, as West Bend-Mallard never trailed.
For St. Edmond, Coltin Fevold accounted for his first two touchdowns of his career in the opening half, running in a score and catching one from Thomas Ehn, who made his first start at quarterback.
Five different players caught passes from Ehn, who threw for 276 yards but had two interceptions. Senior Ty Mericle had a receiving touchdown and seven receptions for 55 yards.
Ehn's short TD run midway through the third made it a four-point game before West Bend-Mallard scored four unanswered times to expand the lead.
Fevold had four receptions for 81 yards. Blake Bartlett caught two passes for 58.
Carter Stalzer ran for 227 yards, including 138 in the first half. WB-M’s Abner Zaugg caught two touchdowns from Morey. Grady Goddard had a pick-6 and a receiving TD.
The Wolverines have now won all three meetings between the two schools.
Up next for the Gaels will be another home game next Friday night vs. Glidden-Ralston.
