The Fort Dodge boys golf team got their first taste of regular-season competition on Tuesday, as they hosted a triangular at the Fort Dodge Country Club.

The Dodgers shot a 177 to easily prevail. Des Moines North (237) placed second and Des Moines East (293) was third.

"I thought the kids did a good job overall," said FDSH head coach Nick Vinson. "It's not always easy in a meet like this.

"It's more of a mental test with the pace and some of the distractions around you."

Senior Davis Underberg was the meet medalist, shooting a 41. Senior Mason Frevert was next in line with a 42, and fellow senior Trace Rial carded a 44.

"I thought the seniors did a good job of staying in the moment," Vinson said. "They were able to keep their heads and finish with nice rounds for the first time out."

Camden Sassman and Jake Pingel both shot 50s. Ace Grell was next in line with a 51.

Cameron Beck (46) and Stylz Grall (51) were the top junior varsity performers for the Dodgers.

"We did some uncharacteristic things and made mistakes, which is pretty normal for the first meet," Vinson said. "We just have some things we need to clean up."

Fort Dodge is back in action on Thursday in a triangular at Mason City with the Riverhawks and Waterloo East.

Starting at /week.
