Senior semifinals are set

The semifinals are set in the Iowa Golf Association State Senior Match Play Championships at the Fort Dodge Country Club.
In the senior division, 25th-seeded Curtis Holck of Ankeny continued his surprising run by knocking off top-seed J.D. Anderson in the quarterfinals on Thursday, 1-up. Holck will now face fourth-seeded Joe Palmer, who defeated No. 12 Ron Wastyn in the quarters, 2-and-1.
The other side of the bracket held true to form, as No. 2 seed Gene Elliott and third-seeded Jon Brown both moved into the final four. Elliott topped former Humboldt standout and seventh-seeded Jeff Panek in the quarterfinals, 4-and-3, while Brown ousted No. 11 Matt Weresh, 2-and-1.
On Friday morning, Holck squares off with Palmer and Elliott takes on Brown. The championship will be at the FDCC on Friday afternoon.
A pair of area golfers reached the super senior semifinals on Thursday. No. 3 seed Tom Schill of Gowrie tipped sixth-seeded Joe Ward, 1-up, and second-seeded Tony Malizia of Humboldt bounced No. 7 Pat Ryan, 2-and-1. Schill and Malizia now meet on Friday morning in the final four.
The top of the bracket saw 17th-seeded John Kinsey continue his run into the semis with a 5-and-4 win over No. 8 Tim Peters. Kinsey now takes on Todd Sapp, who clipped No. 12 Tom Christensen in the quarters, 1-up.
The super senior finals are also slated for Friday afternoon.
Three of the top four women's senior challengers are in the semifinals, as No. 1 Laura Leszczynski, second-seeded Rosalie Kubesheski and No. 4 Geri Huser advanced. No. 6 Mary Howell edged third-seeded Michelle Klein, 2-and-1, to join them in the semis.
Leszczynski and Huser play on Friday morning, with Kubesheski taking on Howell. The championship is Friday afternoon.
