Humboldt, Algona in preseason volleyball rankings

Both Humboldt and Algona are ranked in the preseason volleyball poll for Class 3A released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Wildcats, who advanced to the 3A title game last year, are No. 2 behind only Cherokee. Defending 3A state champion Davenport Assumption moved up to 4A this fall.

Coming off a 33-7 season, Humboldt returns several key players, including University of Northern Iowa commit Addie Waldorf.

The Bulldogs, who went 22-6 last year, are ranked 10th in 3A.

Waukee Northwest, the defending 5A state champion, is No. 1, along with Norwalk (4A), Grundy Center (2A) and Janesville (1A).
