Gaels roll past Storm Lake

By Dana Becker 2 min read

The St. Edmond girls tennis team remained unbeaten in duals, besting Storm Lake here Monday, 9-0.

Chloe Palmer, Abby Huss, Olivia Andrew and Emmersyn Peters all picked up 8-0 wins in singles, as Jade Rock scored an 8-1 victory and Sophia Schlienz won by a score of 8-2.

"The girls came to play and would not be denied," SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. "Storm Lake was down a few of its starting players as they also share athletes with the volleyball program.

"Sharing athletes is not always the easiest thing to do when running a successful program, but with solid teamwork from activities director Mr. David Flattery and volleyball head coach Lindsay Heffernan, we are able to make it work for the girls to be successful in both sports."

St. Edmond scored doubles victories from the pairings of Palmer and Huss, Schlienz and Andrew, and Rock and Kaci McGonegle. The three dropped just two total games.

"It was a great night of tennis," Neverman said. "All of the girls at all levels played great."

In junior varsity action, Betsy and Mary Ella Gruver, Dylan Eslick and Ava Marie Kirby, Peters and Lizzy Tiernan, and Abby Webster and Allie Birkett all picked up victories.

The Gaels are back in action Tuesday at Nevada.
