Offensively, Thomas Ehn and Matthew Crimmins had career nights last Friday in a commanding 50-32 victory for the St. Edmond football team over Glidden-Ralston.

For Ehn and Crimmins, though, it all started on the first possession of the game, on the defensive side of the field.

Ehn forced a fumble that Crimmins pounced on, giving St. Edmond excellent field position. Two plays later, Ehn tossed the first of his seven touchdown passes, and the Gaels were off and running.

St. Edmond (1-1 overall) piled up over 400 yards of total offense, as Ehn hit senior Ty Mericle for three of his career-high seven touchdowns. Griffin Laufersweiler, another senior, caught two, as sophomore Blake Bartlett and freshman Jack Stucky each had one.

While Ehn was getting it done in the air, Crimmins was dominating the Wildcats (0-1) on the ground. The junior state wrestling medalist from a year ago rushed for 196 yards on 31 carries, piling up 117 of those yards in the opening half.

"I felt like we really did a nice job of balancing things out on offense," SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. "We struggled to get on track vs. West Bend-Mallard, but we came right out of the gates and got on the board first. I felt like that helped settle the kids in."

Glidden-Ralston answered that opening score with a quick three-play drive of its own, but St. Edmond would rattle off the next 14 points to regain control.

Ehn hit Bartlett from 10 yards out and Laufersweiler from seven, with his 32-yard dart on a perfectly thrown ball down the middle of the field hitting Stucky just before the half. Ehn had eight completions before the break, with four of them resulting in touchdowns.

"Thomas really had a great game," Dillon said. "He showed a lot of growth on the field. I thought all of our kids did. We still have things we need to clean up, but this season is a work in progress, and we moved forward (last Friday night)."

Under the guidance of Mark McDermott, the Gael defense forced five first half punts and recorded a key turnover on downs late in the game when Glidden-Ralston was driving to cut into the lead.

Crimmins added a sack on defense, as Laufersweiler picked off a pass.

Ehn finished 11-for-25 for 187 yards, as Mericle caught five passes for 113 yards. Stucky caught three passes for 42 yards, with both of Laufersweiler's catches resulting in touchdowns.

For the Wildcats, Brody Hunt had 180 yards passing and four touchdowns, as Colton Rohrbeck recorded 197 yards from scrimmage.

St. Edmond hits the road for the first time this year, traveling to Newell-Fonda on Friday night. The Mustangs fell to North Union last week, 66-7.
