Five Dodgers make all-district in baseball

Over 30 Messengerland players earned all-district honors from the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association recently, including six total from Fort Dodge and St. Edmond.
Five Dodgers made the Class 4A, West squad, led by first team selections Bo Marsh, Kolton Schiltz and Tru McBride. Tanner Peterson and Will McElroy were named to the second squad, as was Blake Bartlett of St. Edmond in 1A, Central.
Humboldt's Dane Clark and Valley Davis; Pocahontas Area's Blake Bunda; Emmetsburg's Brennan Hasbrough, MJ Bay and Cooper Chizek; and Bishop Garrigan's Brad Meister and Tate Foertsch were all first teamers from the area.
Marsh, a junior catcher, hit .422 with 31 RBI and 43 hits, including 10 doubles. He also threw out seven would-be basestealers.
Schiltz hit .400 with seven homers, 10 doubles, 58 runs scored, 43 RBI and 15 steals. The junior outfielder was walked 32 times and hit by a pitch 16 more, as he had a .583 on-base percentage, a .710 slugging percentage and a 1.293 OPS.
McBride batted .412 with 12 homers, 56 RBI, 10 doubles, four triples and 47 runs scored. The junior worked 23 walks and stole 13 bases, as he had an .886 slugging with a .514 on-base and 1.400 OPS.
McBride's home run total was the best for the program since Eddy Diosdado over 15 years ago. His RBI mark was the high mark for the program since Andy Josephson (67) in 1996.
Peterson, a junior, put together a 4-4 season on the mound, striking out 50 with a 3.18 earned run average while adding 34 runs scored, 29 hits and 24 RBI. McElroy, also a junior, hit .349 with five homers, seven doubles, 38 runs, 31 RBI and 11 steals, going 4-0 on the mound.
Bartlett, a freshman, batted .413, belting four home runs with six doubles and a pair of triples. He drove in 24 runs, scored 17, was walked 23 times and hit six others.
On the mound, Bartlett went 3-3 over nine starts, striking out 49 with a 3.74 earned run average.
Second team area selections included Matthew Tesdahl, Braylon Dyvig and Jaxon Griffith of Webster City; Jackson Flaherty, Griffin Groat, Chase Flaherty and Avyon Sutterfield from Humboldt; Dawson Elsbecker and Aiden Engel of Algona; Xander Small, Karson Welander and Adam Marsh from Pocahontas Area; Dawson Marine of Manson Northwest Webster; Karson Kramer and Carter Schwab from Bishop Garrigan; Grady Goddard and Tyler Hanson of West Bend-Mallard; Andrew Greenfield from Newell-Fonda; and Cole Nicoson and Max Merrill of North Union.
Casey Hanson from Southeast Valley, Landon Sporrer of East Sac County and Charlie Nattress of South Central Calhoun were honorable mentions.
