Supportive local names, tourney go hand-in-hand
Local businesses first and fully embraced the value of the Webster County golf tournament decades ago, and these companies and their leaders continue in that tradition to this day.
Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota has served as the title sponsor for the event for over 20 years now. The long-time local dealership is led by Casey, Deb, Matt and Abigail Johnson, who have been fixtures both at the tourney itself and in the community for a slew of philanthropic needs.
Most recently, the family purchased Shimkat Motor Company and rebranded the campus on the east side of town Fort Dodge Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram last November.
Full Swing Financial Planning of Fort Dodge has promoted the closest to the pin contest since 2024 – a role previously held for years by Faiferlick Martial Arts. The Full Swing Financial staff – including co-CEO and financial advisor Kole Petersen, co-CEO and financial advisor Cole Jaeschke and financial planner Eddie Doyle – have invested their own time, energy and ideas into the regional golf scene dating back to their high school days.
The Messenger first became tournament host in 1980, and has presented the event in support of Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota since the early 2000s. And, of course, a number of area names and faces representing dozens of businesses – both directly and indirectly supporting the event – will be among the well over 100 players in the field this weekend.
The sign-up period continues for this year’s 46th annual event, which tees off on Saturday. The men’s open, senior (age 50-59) and super senior (60-69) divisions will follow an 18-hole format with a 9-hole championship nine in the evening. The men’s legends (ages 70-plus) division will be an 18-hole competition.
All men’s action will be at the Fort Dodge Country Club this year with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $50 per person.
The women’s open division, senior division, super senior division and legends division will be 18 holes at Lakeside Golf Course, as well as a two-player best shot offered as an alternative to stroke play. Cost is $50 per person.
This year, a new junior division will be offered and bracketed at Lakeside, with a 9-hole competition for ages 11-13 ($25 each) and an 18-hole tournament for ages 14-17 ($35 each).
Tee times will be available for women and juniors at Lakeside.
All citizens who either work or live in Webster County are eligible to participate.
For more information or to sign up, men should contact the FDCC at (515) 955-8551. Women and juniors register at Lakeside or by calling (515) 576-6741.
