Centennial dominates to advance

By Dana Becker 2 min read

Second-ranked Ankeny Centennial put on the same kind of power display it has shown all year, besting Dowling here Monday at Rogers Park, 12-2 in four innings.

The Jaguars (39-3 overall) will now face Southeast Polk in Class 5A on Triton Field Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

Mylie Hatfield hit a grand slam as part of a big second inning -- the 14th longball of the year for the senior. Delaney Wyble went deep to give Centennial back-to-back homers, with Kori Lincium adding her 18th homer in the third.

During the regular season, Ankeny Centennial shattered the team record for home runs with 84. They have eight players who have either signed or committed to four-year programs, and two others going the junior college route -- including Iowa Central commit Lauren Bartine.

Hatfield finished with five RBI. Lincium drove in four.

Tory Bennett, part of the state championship team for Fort Dodge in 2021, is an assistant coach for the Jaguars.

Dowling (20-17) takes on Valley in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. Kylie Matejski had a hit and scored a run for the Maroons on Monday.
