Area softball players land on all-state teams

Four Messenger-area softball players were named first team all-state by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association this week.
Algona's Reagan Haynes, Pocahontas Area's Lauren Hoover, and Newell-Fonda's Jocee Walsh and North Union's Brylie Deim were joined by five others on second squads, a pair on third and three honorable-mention choices.
Trunkhill, who pitched Algona to a share of the North Central Conference title this summer, went 20-4 inside the circle, striking out 148 with a 1.51 earned run average. She also hit .301 with 17 RBI and nine extra-base hits.
Hoover was 17-8 with two saves, striking out 190 in just over 140 innings pitched while maintaining an earned run average under two. She also batted .350 with 24 runs scored, 23 RBI, 11 doubles and two homers.
Walsh hit .389 with 11 homers, seven doubles, 40 RBI and 19 runs scored, adding eight pitching wins with 88 strikeouts.
Deim batted .432, driving in 52 runs and scoring 46 with 14 home runs and 10 doubles. She also had a .962 fielding percentage.
Allison Trunkhill joined Haynes on the second team. Humboldt's Claire Dieleman was a 3A second teamer.
Hoover's PAC teammate, Katie Rierson, made the 2A second squad. Newell-Fonda's Ellie Sievers and North Union's Ainsley Ulrich were on the 1A second team.
Olivia Price and Shallie Walders of North Union were third teamers, with Quinn Sievers of Newell-Fonda and North Union's Maisley Biersted and Aslynn Sobolik earning honorable-mention status.
Trunkhill and Southeast Valley's Rian Schlief were named all-district by the IGCA, along with Hoover, Rierson, East Sac County's Miranda Gerdes, and Newell-Fonda's Ellie Sievers.
