FD softball team on cruise control

WATERLOO — The third-ranked Fort Dodge softball team ran its win streak to 11 straight with another convincing sweep.

The Dodgers (19-2 overall) combined for 26 runs in 11-1 and 15-0 victories over Waterloo East on Tuesday night. During the streak the Dodgers have scored double digits in nine consecutive games. The streak has netted 126 runs.

Fort Dodge got off to a strong start in the opener, plating four runs in both the second and third innings, pounding out 12 hits in the contest.

“We have to take every game seriously, no matter what our opponents’ record is,” said Fort Dodge head coach Andi Adams. “We just don’t want to have a let down.

“We have to go out and control what we can control and work on the things we need to work on.”

Teryn Rippentrop, Macy Wills, Ellie Doster, Grace Nichols and Meg Marsh had two hits each, as the Dodgers had five extra base hits. Nichols, Wills and Doster had doubles, while Aubrey Alstott and Rippentrop had triples.

Doster had two RBI, while Rippentrop, Wills, Nichols, Marsh, Aubrey Alstott and Emmersyn Lara all had one.

Doster has now hit safely in all 21 games for the Dodgers. She has a streak of 24 straight games dating back to last season.

Aubrey Alstott (9-0) pitched the first three innings. She threw 31 pitches, 29 for strikes. She gave up one-hit, fanning seven batters with zero walks.

“Aubrey had a great game,” Adams said. “She threw 31 pitches, 29 for strikes. She was throwing great.”

In the second contest the big innings came in the second and third when Fort Dodge plated seven and six respectively.

It was a nine hit effort for the Dodgers, who took advantage of five Trojan (2-19) errors.

Wills had one hit, but drove in three runs, as nine different Dodgers recorded a hit. Doster and Marsh had two RBI each, while Nichols, Calliegh Zimmermann, eighth-grader Jocelynn Bishop and Maeleena Meyer had an RBI each.

“We just try to go out and learn and look at things,” Adams said. “We have to use the things we are seeing and take advantage of it.

“We were able to get some girls in and give them a chance to prove themselves.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Friday and Saturday when they host the Fort Dodge Invitational at Rogers Park.
