Auspicious start at Sports Park Raceway
Nearly 100 drivers enjoy perfect weather in Sunday’s season opener

Sports Park Raceway kicked off their season on Sunday, crowning winners in seven feature events for the opener sponsored by Fort Dodge Ford Lincoln Toyota.
Over 100 drivers were on the track on a picture-perfect night for racing.
Will Smith took the checkered flag in the A Feature of the Pickett Salvage IMCA Hobby Stock Race. Smith, of Lake City, beat out Dan Hanselman of Algona. Jade Lange of Humboldt was third in the feature that had three heat races.
Joshua Monson of Clear Lake and Ethan Dirks of Belmond won the heats, along with Smith.
In the United Plant Services IMCA Modifieds, Chaz Baca of Jewell came out on top. Jeremy Mills of Clear Lake was second and Trevor Fitz of Camarillo, Calif. was third.
Andy Tiernan of Madrid and Nick Meyer of Whittemore were the heat winners.
In the White Transfer and Storage IMCA Sport Mods event, it was Mike Smith of Lake City who came out on top.
Smith beat out Alec Fett of Burt, Rocky Caudle of Ellsworth and Jeremiah Reed of Otho.
In the Matt’s Tire Service IMCA Sports Compact feature race, Rece Hayes of Guthrie Center prevailed. Tyler Fiebelkorn of Stuart and Charles Prime of Britt were right behind. Brooke Osler of Milford and Kaytee DeVries of Spencer won the heats.
Scott Olson of Blairsburg took the checkered flag in the A Feature for the Marsh Concrete IMCA Stock Cars. Olson was ahead of Troy Jerovetz of Iowa Falls and Ryan Roath of Kamrar.
Tyler Nielsen of Lohrville and Tyler Pickett of Boone captured the heat races.
Dan Demey of Denison was the IMCA Late Model winner.
Todd Jansonius of Carroll won the Pickett Salvage Street Stock Vintage Cars race. Mark Chance of Clive was second.
Nick Sawdy of Fort Dodge took Culver’s 4.6 Crown Vics race. Sawdy was ahead of Fort Dodge’s Nick Hogan and Nate Hogan of Fort Dodge, as well as Cyle Marsh of Fort Dodge.
Action continues at Sports Park Raceway this Sunday with the United Plant Services Modified Special, with all divisions in action.
