78th annual FD AM tees off

Nearly 150 players will be in town this weekend for the 78th annual Fort Dodge Amateur golf tournament.
Conditions are expected to be favorable weather-wise for Saturday’s opening round, with temperatures in the low-80s and a manageable breeze. That may change on Sunday, though, as the heat and wind both kick in.
Last year’s champions were Grant Greazel (Open), Bret Taylor (Senior), Dave Gaer (Super Senior) and Joel Yunek (Legends). In addition to those brackets, a Super Legends and Grand Master division have been added to the 36-hole event for ages 75-79 and 80 and older, respectively.
A number of previous gold medalists are back in search of titles, including familiar local faces and former champs Andrew Huseman, Kevin Ault, Dave Sergeant, Bill Manske, Tom Schill and Terry Miller. Nate McCoy, Niel Doak, Grant Smith, Ron Peterson and Dave Studer have all spent time in the winner’s circle as well.
Cody Jaeschke of Fort Dodge recently captured the Travis Habhab Memorial Lakeside Amateur crown.
The FD Am — one of the oldest amateur tournaments in the state — will again feature a field close to capacity and an overall prize purse of over $10,000 in cash, divvied up to top performers in each division.
Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and run through 9:20. The afternoon slate starts at 12:30 p.m. and goes until 2:20 p.m.
Players open their rounds on either hole 1 or 10. Times and starts for Sunday will be determined by Round 1 results.
The Country Club is a par 35-36-71 layout.
