The Iowa Central baseball team faced a familiar foe over the weekend, and that won’t change once the postseason begins on Thursday.
In their final regular-season game at Rogers Park on Saturday, The 18th-ranked Tritons (43-9 overall) drubbed Ellsworth for the third straight time, earning a 17-6 win.
On Friday, the Tritons swept the Panthers, 15-3 and 15-0.
Thursday’s Region 11 tournament will be at Merchants Park in Carroll. Iowa Central opens as the No. 3 seed in the competition, and will again take on the Panthers at 3:30 p.m. with the winner meeting Kirkwood.
In Saturday’s finale, the Tritons pounded out 14 hits — including seven home runs.
Sawyer Stein had a huge day, going 3-for-5 with three home runs and five RBI to help pace a huge effort at the plate for Iowa Central.
Parker Studtmann was a perfect 4-for-4 with a homer and three driven in.
Ben Jones had two hits — including a long ball — and four RBI. George McIntyre added two hits and also went deep.
Tate Perrin chipped in a home run, and Jacob Coshenet contributed a double.
Sam Sejnoha also drove in two in the rout.
