ST. ANSGAR — The eighth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team handled St. Ansgar here Tuesday night, picking up a 12-2 victory in four innings.

The opponents were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but weather caused the nightcap to be called off.

Faith Shirbroun, Sophia Schlienz and Toryn Helle each had two hits, as Shirbroun recorded two doubles, scored twice and drove in two.

In addition to striking out eight batters, Helle also plated three runs and had a double.

“We had a good night at the plate,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “The girls were patient and made solid contact.”

Schlienz had an RBI and scored a run, Myrah Lemon scored twice and had a double, and Jade Rock drove in a pair. Greenlee Crimmins also scored twice.

“We got nice production throughout the lineup,” Shirbroun said. “Toryn did a nice job of mixing up her pitches and hitting her spots.

The Gaels (3-0 overall) host Pocahontas Area at Rogers Park on Thursday. First-pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
