Mericle wins tourney for Gaels
COON RAPIDS — The St. Edmond boys golf team finished the regular season with a runner-up performance here Saturday at the Crusader Invitational hosted by Coon Rapids-Bayard.
The Crusaders shot a 310 to hold off the Gaels by five shots, as Audubon, Saydel and ACGC rounded out the Top-5.
Ty Mericle took home the individual title with a 72, one stroke ahead of teammate Jack McElroy. Both Hunter Horn and Maxxus Laufersweiler carded rounds of 85, as Griffin Laufersweiler finished with a 97 and Cal Reisner had a 102.
“It was great to see Ty and Jack at the top of the leaderboard,” SEHS head coach Matt Dillon said. “They have both had good springs and appear to be finding their rhythm at the best time.
“Hunter and Maxxus came in with strong scores to help us in the team standings, Griffin played really well and Cal did a great job for his first varsity meet.”
Up next for the Gaels will be a trip to Conrad Golf Course for a Class 1A sectional hosted by BCLUW on Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. The field also includes AGWSR, Colo-Nesco, Gladbrook-Reinbeck, GMG and North Tama.
If they advance by placing in the Top-3 of the team standings, St. Edmond would host a district meet on Monday, May 18 at Lakeside Golf Course.
