Gael teams in action at Hampton

HAMPTON — The St. Edmond boys and girls track and field teams wrapped up the week by competing here on Friday at the Jim Basye Co-Ed Relays.

Anthony Valles had a big night for the Gaels, placing in the Top-5 in the three individual distance events. The senior was third in both the 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter runs, adding a fifth in the 800.

Valles went 10:09.2 in the 3,200 and finished the 1,600 in 4:49.40 behind only fellow cross country standouts Knute Rogne and Hayden Thompson of Lake Mills.

Aaron Hindt took third in the 200-meter dash in 22.76 and was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.28.

“I thought our whole squad competed really well,” SEHS boys head coach Mike Szalat said. “Our younger guys are figuring out how to properly warm up and they’re seeing improvements in their times because of it. Aidan Reel had a PR in the open 800, as did Gordon Seeden in the 400 hurdles.

“Anthony ran three very intelligent races and had one heck of a night. Aaron was phenomenal in the 200 against a stacked field, and it was nice to see Erik Larson drop quite a bit of time in his 3,200.”

Rihanna Myers paced the St. Edmond girls with a fourth in the shot put. Her best throw came in at 33-10. Grace Schlegel finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:30.88.

The Gael 4×800-meter relay of Schlegel, Naomi Valles, Alex Leiting and Adelyn Bangert placed fifth in 11:50.39.

“We’re trying some things out and making some adjustments,” SEHS girls head coach CJ Tracy said. “We’ve got two meets left to fine tune these things. (This meet) was a very competitive field.

“Although we didn’t score as well as a team as we would have liked, we can still take away some positives.”

The St. Edmond girls are at Iowa Falls-Alden on Monday before both teams compete in North Central Conference championships on Thursday. The girls meet will be hosted by Webster City while the boys are in Algona.

Starting at $4.94/week.
