The Fort Dodge boys track and field squad gained some valuable momentum moving toward the postseason by winning five events inside Dodger Stadium here Tuesday night at the Iowa Alliance Conference championships.

Ames took home team honors. Mason City was second, followed by Des Moines Roosevelt, Marshalltown and Fort Dodge. Des Moines North, Ottumwa, Waterloo East, Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines East and Des Moines Lincoln rounded out the scoring.

The Little Cyclones were the only program with more gold medals on the evening at six.

“We’re in a really good place right now,” FDSH head coach Nik Moser said. “To win five of the 19 events, second to only Ames (in that count), was big.

“The kids are really making a lot of progress. Our times are getting better and we’re settling into a rhythm. We’re looking forward to next week and the (state-qualifying meet).”

Noah Daniel, a senior, made the most of his final opportunity competing inside the legendary stadium, winning both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in record-setting fashion. Daniel crossed first in the 100 in 10.89, breaking the previous IAC mark set by Eddie Fulton of Des Moines Roosevelt at 11.10.

In the 200, Daniel shattered his own meet record, going 22.07 after going 22.68 a year ago.

“Noah had another big night,” Moser said. “He’s someone who has an impact on every race he’s involved with. He won the 100, the 200, was on a winning relay team and got second in another.”

Daniel anchored the 4×100 to a gold in 43.92. Sam Moser, Taevon Feeley and Kyree Rochon joined him. The Dodgers were also first in the 4×400 relay behind Jamarius Echols, Cael Hansen, Simeon Roberts and Joos Langkjaer at 3:36.71.

Echols placed first in the 400-meter run in 53.43, adding that to his seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.46). Hansen was third in the 800-meter run in 2:05.32.

“Cael had a really good night,” Moser said. “We just had a lot of guys up and down the lineup who performed really well. Our relays were solid.”

Luke Fierke placed fifth in the discus (136-11). Point was fifth in the 800 (2:06.08).

Dalton Eckley finished sixth in the high jump (5-8), and Mason Hughes was eighth in the 400-meter run (57.11).

Fort Dodge’s 4×800 relay of Point, Hansen, Roberts and Langkjaer just missed out on gold, placing second to Ames in a time of 8:17.99. The Little Cyclones won in 8:16.01.

Feeley, Will Jones, Moser and Daniel placed second in the 4×200 in 1:31.23, again finishing just behind the Little Cyclones at 1:30.82. Moser, Feeley, Jones and Echols were third in the sprint medley relay in 1:38.52.

Rochon added a second in the junior varsity 100-meter dash.

“I want to again thank Mason (Bockoven), Kannon (Graham), John (McBride), Kyron (Wilson) and my dad (Sam Moser) for getting the track set up and having everything ready to go,” Moser said. “It was nice to compete again at home and not have to face a long drive home after the meet.”

The Dodgers head to Waukee for a Class 4A state-qualifying meet on Thursday, May 14. Joining Fort Dodge will be the host Warriors, Ankeny Centennial, Dallas Center-Grimes, Des Moines East, Marshalltown and Waukee Northwest.

Starting at $4.94/week.
