“We went into the weekend hoping we could bring home two regional titles again like indoors,” ICCC head coach Anne Cleary said. “Our teams both fought hard but it didn’t happen. As individuals, this group was amazing.”

Winning individual regional titles were Brianna Wilson (200), Janae Daws (400 hurdles), Soufyane Laaziz (800), Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula (800), Emmanuel Kiplagat (Steeplechase), Abbigail Hutchinson (Steeplechase), Chakib Cherkaoui Rhazouani (10,000), Unitee Brown (discus, shot put), Haydn Stockdale (hammer), Eden Brouwers (javelin, pole vault), Alan Lefevre (pole vault) and Paola Behile (triple jump).

The women’s 4×400 and 4×800 relays, along with the men’s 4×800 relay, also each finished first.

Dawes set a new school record in the 400 hurdles and Laaziz the same in the 800. In all, the Tritons placed 10 events in the Top-10 in school history, broke three regional records and had 11 new national qualifiers.

Laaziz now has the No. 4 time in the 800 in NJCAA history, Said Rifi Loutfi, who was second in the race, is ranked eighth and Dawes is 22nd.

Iowa Central now prepares to head to Hobbs, N.M. for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships from New Mexico Junior College on May 14-16.
