MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge girls track and field team got a small glimpse into what to expect at the upcoming state-qualifying meet by competing here Tuesday night in the Iowa Alliance Conference championships.

The Dodgers placed eighth overall, as Ames claimed team honors. Des Moines Roosevelt, Ottumwa, Mason City and Marshalltown rounded out the Top-5 in the 11-team field.

Leading the way for Fort Dodge was Ky’Mariana Mosley, as the junior took home a bronze in the discus. Mosley had a best effort of 100-7, as she also placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 31-10.

Ava Wessels was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.02 and Brogan Miller took sixth in the discus with a throw of 86-3.

“It’s going to amp up real quick (in terms of competition),” FDSH head coach Todd Constable said. “But it was just nice to have another opportunity to run again because competing is what we need right now. We haven’t really been very fortunate this spring to be able to do that because of the weather.

“Our times might not have been great, but I do think we did a nice job in terms of battling for that extra position. We saw improvements in some areas, and in the others, we’ll work on as we move towards districts and see what we can get into state.”

Maeleena Meyer was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.99), Saiya Noborikawa took seventh in the 3,000-meter run (12:59.45), and Malay Hollins was seventh in the long jump (14-0.5).

Teryn Rippentrop took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:18.44) for the Dodgers.

Fort Dodge had three relays place fifth: the shuttle hurdle, the 4×200 and the 4×400. Adyson Friesth, Ava Osorio, Charlotte DeJong and Meyer went 1;15.31 in the shuttle hurdle, while Aneliese Schuur, Hope Alstott, Valyn Friedrichs and Wessels posted a time of 1:55.81 in the 4×200.

Running the 4×400 was DeJong, Osorio, Gabrielle Wirtz and Brooklyn Nelson.

The Dodgers head to Waukee for a Class 4A state-qualifying meet on Thursday, May 14. Joining Fort Dodge will be the host Warriors, Ankeny Centennial, Dallas Center-Grimes, Des Moines East, Marshalltown and Waukee Northwest.

Starting at $4.94/week.
