Busy week ahead for Jags

DES MOINES — The colors of Southeast Valley and Algona will be on display in several races here starting Thursday at the state track and field championships inside Drake Stadium.
The Jaguar boys qualified in 11 events in Class 2A, as did the Bulldog boys in 3A. Algona has 10 events qualified in girls and Southeast Valley pushed three through.
Under the leadership of Twin Lakes Conference Coach of the Year Travis Nuss, the Jaguar boys won 10 of 11 team titles at meets they entered. Kayden Showers, Logan Jaeschke, Owen Nuss, Colin Johnson, Kolton Ollinger, and Alex Burger all qualified in individual events, with Johnson earning two bids.
Southeast Valley also qualified in the 4×100, 4×400, shuttle hurdle and sprint medley relays.
Johnson clocked the third-fastest 400 hurdles time and the eighth-best 110 hurdles. The sprint medley of Bryce Harrison, Showers, Jaeschke and Johnson is seeded third while the shuttle hurdle of Burger, Casey Hanson, Ollinger and Johnson is sixth.
Algona, meanwhile, boasts speed, earning sprint qualifying spots from William Weichert, Evan Allie and Tate Garman in the 100 and 200. Gavin Weber is a two-event qualifier, as the Bulldogs are also entered in the 4×100, distance medley and sprint medley.
In the field events, Algona’s Max Nevitt is in both the discus and shot put while Will Limbaugh is in the discus. Nevitt had the best district throw in the discus and third-best in the shot put.
Weichert is seeded second in the 100, Allie is second in the 200 and Garman fourth in the 200. The distance medley relay of Garman, Levi Walker, Allie and Weber is seeded first while the sprint medley relay of Weichert, Walker, Garman and Allie is fourth.
Another Algona sprinter, Natalie Johnson, is in both the 100 and 200, posting the second-fastest district 100. Reagan Haynes is fourth in the discus and Maya Lentz fifth in the long jump.
The Webster City boys are seeded second in the sprint medley in 3A behind Jaxon Griffith, Kaleb Hansen, Rylan Stroner and Justin Callahan. Izzy Grossoehme is eighth in the 400.
Humboldt will send five events to the state meet. Jackson Flaherty will compete in the 200-meter dash.
Jack Guy is the other indivdual in the shot put.
The Wildcats will also run the distance medley relay, the shuttle hurdle relay and the sprint medley.
Valley Davis will compete in all three relays, while Jackson and Chase will be in two.
South Central Calhoun’s Tristin Gorden is first in the 2A discus while Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany is tied for second in the high jump, fourth in the 400 and fifth in the long jump. She is a defending state champion in the high jump.
Wendie Veit of East Sac County posted the second-fastest 400 hurdles time at districts in 2A and is eighth in the 400. Her teammate, Riley Aragon, is eighth in the 3,200.
Manson Northwest Webster’s Cole Judisch is sixth in the 2A 400.
In 1A, Bishop Garrigan’s Madelyn Tigges is third in the 400 while Newell-Fonda’s Mareni Brabec is sixth in the 1,500.
