Tritons rough up NIACC, 31-9
MASON CITY — The No. 18 Iowa Central baseball team bounced back in a big way here on Wednesday.
The Tritons posted a 31-9 victory over North Iowa Area, snapping a three-game losing streak in their final regular season road game.
Iowa Central (40-9 overall, 18-6 in the ICCAC) has scored over 30 runs three different times this year, sweeping the three games with the Trojans. This marks the fourth straight season they have reached the 40-win mark.
George McIntyre hit a pair of home runs for the Tritons. Ben Jones, Wyatt Myers, Tate Perrin and Mitch Seykora also went deep.
Iowa Central scored 10 runs in the first, as they chased NIACC starter Joe Pirillo, taking advantage of five walks by him and 14 in the game.
“We came right out and did a great job making the most of our opportunities,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “We had a bad taste in our mouths after this weekend at Kirkwood, so we needed a game like this.”
McIntyre was 3-for-4 with five RBI and three runs scored, Sam Sejnoha drove in four and scored four times, Luke Sigwarth plated three and scored three runs, Jones was 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored, Sawyer Stein scored three runs and Parker Studtmann crossed home four times with two hits.
Perrin added four RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, as Seykora drove in three. Myers had three runs and two RBI, as the Tritons scored four in the second, six in the third and seven in the fourth.
Chase Reeder worked four innings, striking out four to earn the win. Nick Discher pitched a perfect seventh with a strikeout.
Up next for Iowa Central will be a three-game series with Ellsworth beginning Friday at Rogers Park to conclude the regular season.
