Tritons open postseason play

BOONE — The Iowa Central softball team begins postseason play here Friday in the Region 11-B Tournament.

The Tritons (38-16 overall) open with Hawkeye at 4 p.m. following No. 10 Des Moines Area and Northeast squaring off.

Winners of those two games will play on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the finals set for Sunday starting at noon. The tournament is double-elimination.

During the regular season, Iowa Central and Hawkeye (23-31) split four meetings. The RedTails won the first, 4-2, before the Tritons responded at Rogers Park with an 8-0 win in five innings.

When they met in Waterloo, Hawkeye won, 3-2, and Iowa Central picked up a 21-4 victory in five again.

The Tritons won all 12 neutral site games they have played this season.

Sophomore Natalie Rasmussen leads the way for ICCC at the plate, hitting .463 with 23 home runs, 38 steals, 14 doubles, five triples, 65 RBI and 83 runs scored. Freshman Jersey Hawf has 15 homers and 63 RBI, Josephine Moore has 11 home runs and 44 RBI, as Southeast Valley grad Ellie Nolte and Jozie Kerr each have six homers. Nolte is a sophomore while Moore and Kerr are both freshmen.

Cadence Touney, a former Fort Dodge Senior High, is hitting .356 with four homers, 32 RBI and 10 doubles in her first season as a Triton. Lauren Gibb, a St. Edmond all-stater, has 10 extra-base hits and 19 RBI with 23 runs scored while Eagle Grove grad Addyson Jeske, another freshman, has 19 runs scored and 12 steals.

Inside the circle, sophomore Jillian French is 14-4 with seven complete games and 140 strikeouts in just under 127 innings. Jaidan Abel, another sophomore, has 12 wins and two saves with 95 strikeouts.

Hawkeye is led by Mackenzie Bridgewater, Jordan Eads and Isabelle Kriegel. Bridgewater is hitting .360 with 40 runs scored and 35 steals, Eads has 44 hits and 24 runs scored while Kriegel has 10 homers and 48 RBI.

Mya Chamberlin owns a record of 12-14 with 130 strikeouts in over 150 innings.

The Region 11-A Tournament takes place in Cedar Rapids, as top-ranked Kirkwood hosts Ellsworth followed by NIACC vs. Iowa Lakes.

The highest-seeded regional champion automatically advances to the NJCAA Div. II World Series, as the other regional winner plays in the Northwest Plains District championship vs. a team from Region 13 beginning Friday, May 8 for a spot in the World Series.
