Tritons go 4-0 on the road

The No. 21 Iowa Central softball team can produce key hits at any time in the batting order.

On Sunday, former Southeast Valley standout Ellie Nolte helped provide a little juice in helping the Tritons secure another series sweep, finishing the weekend away from home a perfect 4-0.

Iowa Central took two from Ellsworth in Iowa Falls on Sunday by scores of 11-10 and 3-2 in 10 innings after doing the same to Northeast Iowa in Farley Saturday, 4-1 and 7-1.

Nolte’s first career college homer came in the fourth of the opener, pushing the Tritons (32-9 overall, 17-6 in the ICCAC) to a 10-7 advantage. It was a two-run shot and part of a five-run inning.

“Ellie’s homer was a huge hit for us,” ICCC head coach Bo Tjebben said. “It was great to see her get that first home run in college. The girls just kept battling all day in tough conditions, staying together and keeping tremendous energy up.

“I thought all of our pitchers did a nice job overall, especially Josie Juhl stepping up. Her ball was moving really well.”

Cadence Touney, a Fort Dodge Senior High grad, was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, as Iowa Central won it in the seventh.

In the 3-2 victory over the Panthers (19-24), Touney delivered an RBI and Eagle Grove grad Addyson Jeske had a steal and scored a run. Josie Juhl struck out five over five-plus, allowing just two hits in relief for the win. She also picked up the victory in the opener by getting the final five outs with two strikeouts.

Kyra Kain and Jersey Hawf each hit home runs, as Kain was 3-for-4 with a double to go along with her homer. Hawf plated two runs and Eagle Grove grad Addyson Jeske added a hit with a stolen base.

Jillian French picked up the win inside the circle, striking out five with just three hits allowed.

In the nightcap, Iowa Central scored runs in each of the final five innings, as Kain and Hawf both recorded two hits each with an RBI. Natalie Rasmussen plated two runs and scored once while Avery McKinney had two hits, scored a run and drove in one.

Nolte had a hit, scored a run, drove in a run and worked a walk, Touney had a hit and an RBI, and St. Edmond all-stater Lauren Gibb recorded a hit with a stolen base.

Jaidan Abel struck out 10 to earn the victory, scattering seven hits and allowing just one earned run.
