Tritons go 1-2 vs. Div. I power IWCC

The No. 16 (Div. II) Iowa Central baseball team dropped a ranked series to 11th-rated (Div. I) Iowa Western over the weekend at Rogers Park.

After scoring a 5-4 victory on Saturday, the Tritons were swept by scores of 16-1 in five innings and 10-7 in nine on Sunday.

Iowa Central (32-6 overall) rallied in the win on Saturday, scoring two runs in the eighth before getting out of it in the ninth for the victory. Sawyer Stein and Tate Perrin each had two hits, as both scored a run. Sam Sejnoha plated a pair, including the game winner in the eighth. Wyatt Myers and Jack Ratcliffe drove in a run each.

Carter Giesen struck out nine over five innings of work on the mound, as Sean Stewart pitched a perfect ninth with two Ks.

In the 10-7 loss, Stein hit a three-run homer in the opening frame and finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. George McIntyre had two hits and scored twice.

Perrin scored twice and Sejnoha plated a pair.

Iowa Western is now 29-9 on the year.

Iowa Central heads to Estherville to face Iowa Lakes (7-13) on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
