No. 21 Tritons extend win streak to three straight
The No. 21 Iowa Central softball team got one game in here Thursday before heavy rains forced the nightcap to be called off at Rogers Park.
Before that, the Tritons extended their win streak to three with a 10-1 win in five over Ellsworth.
Iowa Central (28-9 overall, 13-6 in ICCAC) recorded four home runs in the opener, including a pair by freshman Jozie Kerr. The Rock Island, Ill. native finished 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored, as the Panthers walked her in her other at-bat.
Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Cadence Touney continued her strong play at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Natalie Rasmussen had the other homer, going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.
“We’ve put in so much time and effort to improve our hitting, so it’s great to see the girls stay hot with the bats,” ICCC head coach Bo Tjebben said. “And just like on Wednesday, we had production throughout our lineup, which is another positive to see moving forward.”
Addyson Jeske, an Eagle Grove grad, connected on a triple and scored a run, as Jersey Hawf finished with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Avery McKinney added an RBI and a run scored.
The Tritons plated a run in the second, three in the third and broke the contest open with six in the fourth. That was more than enough run support for sophomore Jillian French, as she struck out seven over four innings of work inside the circle.
Scarlett Gordon pitched a scoreless inning to close out Ellsworth, striking out one. Iowa Central did not commit an error, walked just two batters and left only four on base.
“We’ve just got to continue showing up and competing each time out,” Tjebben said. “If we can keep doing that, we’ll be where we need to be come postseason time.”
The Panthers raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first of the second game before the Tritons answered with four runs of their own. That contest was halted due to weather with plans for a makeup yet to be determined.
Iowa Central is scheduled to lead to Farley to face Northeast Iowa on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. followed by a trip to Iowa Falls on Sunday to face Ellsworth in another twinbill.
