The 16th-ranked Iowa Central baseball team scored another sweep of an ICCAC opponent here Wednesday at Rogers Park.

After blasting North Iowa Area in the opener, 14-4 in five innings, the Tritons secured victory No. 39 on the year with a thrilling 9-7 triumph.

Iowa Central’s (39-6 overall, 17-3 in league) Jaren Lauver recorded a pair of strikeouts with runners on second and third in the seventh to pick up the save and secure the win in the nightcap. These two teams will meet again next Wednesday in Mason City for a single-game.

Colin Fike picked up the win, working two-plus scoreless innings in relief, as Chase Reeder struck out six after making the start. Ben Jones drove in two runs on two hits with a run scored, as Will Specht, Sawyer Stein, Jack Ratcliffe and Bennett Burke each had an RBI.

Stein and Wyatt Myers both had two hits, with Myers scoring twice.

“We’ve got to get back into having good consistency in all aspects of the game,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “We’re just not there right now. We’ll have bad things carry over and halt that momentum you need to be generating.”

In the opener, Jones connected on a home run, finishing with two RBI and three runs scored. George McIntyre also scored three times, driving in two, as Specht, Stein and Tate Perrin each added two RBI.

Myers and Bryson Carpenter both scored twice and had an RBI. The Tritons took advantage of 10 walked batters in the game.

On the mound, Sean Stewart came on in relief, working the final three-plus with six strikeouts, one walk and just one hit allowed.

“Sean came in and gave us a great effort,” Stein said. “And Jaren was excellent there to close out the second game. But we need the bullpen to put fires out, not there more gasoline on them.”

Iowa Central will carry a seven-game win streak into this weekend when they head to Cedar Rapids to face Kirkwood beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.

Starting at $4.94/week.
