More national spots solidified by Tritons

PELLA — The Iowa Central track and field program was in action here this past weekend at the Dutch Invitational hosted by Central College.

The Tritons earned seven more national qualifiers during the meet, as four athletes scored Top-10 program bests.

Janae Dawes landed two of the qualifying bids and two of those bests, as she scored spots at nationals in the long jump and the 400 hurdles. Her leap in the long jump placed her eighth in ICCC history while her 400 hurdles time was good for 10th.

Abbigail Hutchinson and Akram Mouaki doubled up, as Hutchinson qualified in the Steeplechase and is now ranked second in program history. Mousaki qualified in the shot put and sits fourth best.

Other national qualifiers include Dominic Ebeinsteiner and Brianna Wilson in the 100, and Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula in the 400 hurdles.

“Pretty drastic temperature difference from a week ago,” ICCC head coach Anne Cleary said. “Much cooler and very windy but our athletes came to compete.

“Luckily, we were able to get some races in that weren’t wind aided and got a few national qualifiers out of this meet.”

The Tritons head to a pair of different events beginning Friday, as the multi athletes go to Emporia State University for the Midwest Classic while the rest are at the Husker Spring Kick Off hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Starting at $4.94/week.
