Iowa Central splits twinbill at Hawkeye
HUDSON — It wasn’t what the 24th-ranked Iowa Central softball team wanted in their doubleheader opener, but the finale was a bit of redemption here on Monday.
The Tritons (36-12 overall, 21-9 in the ICCAC) dropped their first contest to Hawkeye (21-27, 14-16), 3-2, but fired back with a vengeance in a 21-4 nightcap victory.
The second contest turned into a career night for Natalie Rasmussen. The Tritons’ star infielder was 5-for-5 with three home runs and six RBI.
Southeast Valley graduate Ellie Nolte had a double and a home run while driving in four.
St. Edmond graduate Lauren Gibb had a home run and three RBI while also scored three runs. Fort Dodge graduate Cadence Touney was 3-for-4 with a double.
Gracie Kirk added a double and an RBI. Kyra Kain tallied two hits and drove in three. Scarlett Gordon was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In the opener, Hawkeye had a three-run fourth inning that held up. The Tritons plated two runs in the sixth.
Jersey Hawf was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Iowa Central. Rasmussen tallied a double.
Iowa Central is back in action on Wednesday at NIACC (33-18, 18-10).
