Gaels run at Ram Early Bird
JEFFERSON — The St. Edmond girls track and field team competed here Friday night at the Ram Early Bird hosted by Greene County.
Leading the way for the Gaels was the distance medley relay, as they took third place overall. That quartet consisted of Breckyn Ulrich, Brianna Saathoff, Ava Bradley and Grace Schlegel, as they finished in a time of 4:48.11.
Schlegel added a fifth in the 800 (2:42.82) while Saathoff was seventh in the 200 (29.44). Rihanna Myers placed sixth in the shot put (31-7) and 10th in the discus (88-5).
Naomi Valles and Lily Eslick each placed in the Top-10 in distance events. Valles was ninth in the 1,500 (6:05.18) and Eslick ninth in the 3,000 (13:25.12).
The 4×800 of Schlegel, Adelyn Bangert, Alex Leiting and Naomi Valles was fourth in 11:35.09 while Ella Vandi, Ulrich, Bradley and Saathoff finished seventh in the sprint medley (2:04.76).
“It was good to finally get a meet in,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “The girls came out and competed hard. We’re still in the early stages of figuring out what we are capable of doing. We were able to try some girls out in different races and everyone came out and ran well.”
Southeast Valley had a strong night, as the Jaguars walked away with six first place finishes. Colin Johnson won the 110 hurdles in 15.18, Kayden Showers the 200 in 22.96 and Ian Brunner the shot put (46-0.5).
Kolton Ollinger was the runner-up to Johnson in the 110 hurdles, as he also placed fifth in the long jump. Alex Burger was second in the 400 hurdles and third in the long jump, and Logan Jaeschke was third in the 100.
Burger, Casey Hanson, Jaeschke and Showers won the 4×200 in 1:32.65 while Burger, Hanson, Ollinger and Johnson were first in the shuttle hurdle in 1:01.12.
The Southeast Valley girls finished first in the 4×200 in 1:54.96. That relay consisted of Devyn Wilson, Addison Lundquist, Sage Lane and Avrie Hanson.
Manson Northwest Webster picked up several Top-3 finishes, led by a winning run from Cole Judisch in the 400 in 52.13. Mason Anderson was the runner-up in the high jump, as Ava Moline was third in the discus, Ava Messerly third in the 400 and Jack Hoeppner third in the 800.
The Cougars were also third in the 4×400 behind Thatcher Oswald, Hoeppner, Kyle Widlund and David Nelson.
East Sac County’s Riley Aragon won the 3,200 (10:15.85) and Wendie Veit captured the long jump (14-11). Veit was also second in the 400 hurdles, as Miranda Gerdes placed third in the shot put.
The shuttle hurdle relay of Haley Jo King, Libbie Veit, Laila Meister and Wendie Veit placed first in 1:11.03.
Webster City’s Izzy Grossoehme was second in the 200 and Amanda Lahr second in the shot put. Tessa Hansen placed third in the long jump.
The sprint medley relay of Kali Hartnett, Isabel Weinschenk, Tessa Hansen and Grossoehme earned silver.
