First outdoor meet for Gael boys, girls

EARLHAM — The St. Edmond boys and girls track and field teams battled dropping temperatures to compete Tuesday outside for the first time this spring.

Aaron Hindt led the way for the Gaels, as the junior won the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.38. He was also third in the 100 in 11.54.

Several others picked up silvers, including Anna Lursen, Anthony Valles and Naomi Valles, along with the SEHS girls sprint medley relay.

Lursen was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles, clocking a time of 1:11.49. Naomi Valles finished second in the 3,000 in 12:58.

“It was a solid night for our girls,” SEHS girls head coach CJ Tracy said. “There are several positives we can take from this meet. It was good to get outside despite the cold and the wind. It’s Iowa, so you never know what the weather will be.

“We were able to get everyone in so now Coach (Kevin) Astor and myself will use this as we move forward with our workouts.”

Anthony Valles was second in the 3,200 (10:53) and third in the 800 (2:13).

Ella Vandi, Ava Bradley, Brianna Saathoff and Lursen went 1:57.20 for silver in the sprint medley.

Grant Galles added a third in the 200, finishing in 24.16 and Erik Larson was 10th in the 1,600 in 5:25.

Rihanna Myers was fourth in the shot put (31-0.75) and ninth in the discus (81-2) while Grace Schlegel placed sixth in the 1,500 with a time of 5:28.

The 4×400 mixed relay of Saathoff, Jack McElroy, Lursen and Hindt was third in 3:55.

The Gaels boys head to Eagle Grove next Tuesday for the Umstead Relays beginning at 4 p.m. while the girls are in Gowrie for the Richard Ryan Relays that same night.

Starting at $4.94/week.
