FD girls win two in Algona

ALGONA — The Fort Dodge girls track and field team won two events and picked up several other Top-6 finishes here Tuesday night at the Hannover Relays hosted by Algona.

Clear Lake won the team title over the host Bulldogs, with Lake Mills and Humboldt placing ahead of the Dodgers. Bishop Garrigan and Webster City tied for sixth, with Manson Northwest Webster finishing eighth in the nine-team field.

Maeleena Meyer was part of both victories, as she scored gold in the 100-meter hurdles and anchored the shuttle hurdle relay to the win. Meyer went 16.93 to claim the 100 hurdles, as she was joined by Adyson Friesth, Ava Osorio and Charlotte DeJong on the relay, who turned in a time of 1:12.40.

Osorio was fourth in the long jump, as was Ava Wessels in the 100 and Saiya Noborikawa in the 3,000 for the Dodgers. Ky’Mariana Mosley placed fifth in both the discus and shot put, with Friesth adding a sixth in the 100 hurdles.

The sprint medley relay of Ava Schuur, Hope Alstott, Wessels and Teryn Rippentrop placed fourth with the 4×200 relay of Schuur, Mariana Taute, Malay Hollins and Alstott finishing in fifth.

Osorio won the junior varsity 100 hurdles.

“We still have things to work on and fix, but we’re pretty banged up and trying to get healthy,” FDSH head coach Todd Constable said. “Maeleena had a really strong night. She is just very athletic and has earned her way on our 4×1 with her speed.

“Ava (Osorio) had a nice night as did several others.”

Natalie Johnson (100), Macy Knapp (800), Reagan Haynes (discus), Jada Roberts (high jump) and the 4×200 relay all finished first to lead Algona. Haynes was also the shot put runner-up, as Alyssa Miller (100 hurdles), Sienna Fehr (400 hurdles) and Maya Lentz (long jump) added seconds.

Lentz and Johnson were joined by Lillian Allie and Bella Fairbanks on the winning relay.

Aubry Fisher won the 3,000 and was third in the 1,500 to lead the Wildcats, who were second in the 4×800 with Brynn Malo, Avery Fisher, Macey Rodgers and Brayleigh Angstrom running. Malo also added a third in the 800.

Isabel Grossoehme won the 400 for the Lynx, recording a time of 59.60. She was also third in the 100, as was Briley VanDeer in the 100 hurdles. The 4×200 relay of Tristyn Wright, Kali Hartnett, Isabel Weinschenk and Quinn Ruba finished second.

Manson Northwest Webster’s distance medley relay of Millie Egli, Raygin Anderson, Ava Messerly and Maddie Wittrock placed second, as Ava Moline was third in both the discus and shot put.

Julia Swift won the 1,500 for the Golden Bears, who also placed first in the sprint medley relay behind the quartet of Cate Birkey, Brooklyn Berte, Ava Roethler and Madelyn Tigges.
