Dodgers pick up first win

DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge boys tennis team earned their first victory of the season on Tuesday night.

The Dodgers (1-3 overall) beat Des Moines East (0-4), 10-1.

Fort Dodge won five of the singles matches and swept in doubles.

Aidan Recker, Corban McHone, Jaxon Price, Jaxton Jones and Easton Minkoff picked up wins in singles competition.

“It was a really good day of tennis, even with the one loss we had,” said Fort Dodge head coach Scott Messerly. “Aidan Recker had a really really nice win at No. 1 and all the kids really played well, showing so much improvement up and down the lineup.”

Doubles winners were Recker and Jones, McHone and Price in the top two spots.

Also winning in doubles were Kyran McCrady and Sawyer Evans, Jake Pingel and Minkoff, along with Eli Johnson and Jayden Stanley.

“One of the things that we’re seeing also is that they’re so competitive with each other where they want them varsity spots so they’re always trying to challenge each other in practice to get that spot,” Messerly said. “It’s very promising with a young group like we have.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Thursday when they host Ames.

Starting at $4.94/week.
