MANSON — Grace Schlegel put together an incredible run here Thursday night, claiming the 1,500 at the Emily Markert Relays hosted by Manson Northwest Webster.

The St. Edmond freshman clocked a winning time of 5:21.70, finishing just ahead of MNW’s Maddie Wittrock, who went 5:22.00, with a strong closing sprint.

Ella Vandi, Ava Bradley, Brianna Saathoff and Schlegel placed third in the distance medley for St. Edmond in 4:49.92. Naomi Valles added a fifth in the 3,000 (13:34), and the 4×800 relay of Schlegel, Alex Leiting, Adelyn Bangert and Lily Eslick did the same in 12:04.

Rihanna Myers was sixth in the discus, with Valles placing eighth in the 800 and Saathoff eighth in the 200.

“Another good night for these girls,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “They came out and competed hard. It’s awesome to see their hard work paying off.

“The times are getting better each meet and we are moving in the right direction.”

On Schlegel’s winning run, Tracy added, “Grace ran a smart race. We knew going into it there were two girls who had a slightly faster time, so she ran with them and took over in the last 100.”

Fort Dodge brought a handful of throwers, as Ky’Mariana Mosley was third in the discus (108-3) and fourth in the shot put (34-11).

Manson Northwest Webster’s Ava Moline claimed silver in the discus and bronze in the shot put, with the distance medley relay of Millie Egli, Raygin Anderson, Ava Messerly and Wittrock finishing second.

Kathleen Hildreth was third in the 3,000, as was the shuttle hurdle relay, helping the Cougars place third overall behind Alta/Aurelia and Greene County.

Southeast Valley won the 4×200 behind Devyn Wilson, Addison Lundquist, Emily Wilson and Avrie Hanson, and the Jaguars also also finished second in the 4×100 (Hanson, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley and Sage Lane) and shuttle hurdle (Searcy, Madelynn Miller, Lange, Farley). They were third in the 4×800.

Miller took third in the long jump for SV.

Wendie Veit of East Sac County earned two golds and a second, winning both the 400 (1:01.32) and the 400 hurdles (1:06.26). She was second in the long jump while Miranda Gerdes won the discus (115-10).

Pocahontas Area’s Halee Hauswirth and Khloe Mefferd claimed golds, as Hauswirth won the shot put with a throw of 40-4.75 and Mefferd claimed the 200 in 27.04. Danica Dreith, Hauswirth, Natalie Sommmerlot and Mefferd won the 4×100 in 51.37.

Dreith was second in the 100 hurdles and the 4×200 relay of Emma Sobotka, Hauswirth, Sommerlot and Grace Sobotka also added a silver.

For West Bend-Mallard, Allie Fehr scored three medals, winning the high jump (5-0) while finishing third in both the 400 and 400 hurdles.

The Emily Markert Relays are named in honor of Markert, a Manson Northwest Webster grad who passed away in 2014 at just 32 years old. She has continued helping others over the years through organ transplants.

Starting at $4.94/week.
