DES MOINES — The Drake Relays are here, as qualifiers have been officially announced for the 116th edition of “America’s Athletic Classic.”

Events take place all week, with the high school portion starting on Thursday from Drake Stadium.

The Fort Dodge boys will be sending a 4×100-meter relay to race, as the quartet of junior Sam Moser, senior Taevon Feeley, junior Kyree Rochon and senior Noah Daniel take to the blue oval at 10:12 a.m. on Saturday.

Southeast Valley will be well-represented, as the Jaguars qualified in the 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4×100-meter relay. Colin Johnson qualified in the 110 hurdles, Alex Burger made the 400 hurdles, and Casey Hanson, Logan Jaeschke, Johnson and Kayden Showers advanced in the relay for the Jaguars.

Algona qualified seven individual events and three relays on the boys’ side, with another individual event for the girls. Evan Allie, William Weichert and Tate Garman all advanced in the 100-meter dash, as did Max Nevitt in both the discus and shot put.

Rachel Schany of Emmetsburg is slated for action in both the high jump and long jump. Pocahontas Area’s Halee Hauswirth is headed to Drake in the shot put, and Tristin Gorden from South Central Calhoun is in the discus field.

The Indians also advanced the 4×100 of Danica Dreith, Hauswirth, Natalie Sommerlot and Khloe Mefferd, as did Webster City’s 4×1 quartet of Kali Hartnett, Tessa Hansen, Isabel Weinschenk and Isabel Grossoehme.
