Tritons’ win streak now 20
The No. 14 Iowa Central baseball team continues to pile up wins, finishing off a three-game sweep of DMACC in the ICCAC series opener here Saturday at Rogers Park.
After besting the Bears last Friday, 14-6, the Tritons picked up a twinbill sweep by scores of 15-3 in five innings and 12-11.
The third and final game of the weekend was a thriller, as Iowa Central (24-1 overall, 3-0 in the league) rallied with six unanswered, including the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Sawyer Stein plated Bryson Carpenter after George McIntyre tied it a batter earlier.
Ben Jones was 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored in the comeback victory, as McIntyre had two hits and scored three runs. Stein scored three times with two steals and Carpenter twice.
Drew Fitzpatrick recorded the final six outs, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. Carter Giesen got the start, striking out six over three innings.
“We dug deep to pull out that game,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “Some of those inconsistencies we had earlier this season have been hurting us again, so we have to get that figured out, but it was great to see our fight to finish the sweep.”
In the opener, Jones, Tate Perrin and McIntyre each hit a home run, as the Tritons plated 10 runs in the opener. Perrin was 4-for-4 with five RBI and two runs, McIntyre scored four times and drove in a pair, Carpenter had two RBI and two runs scored, and both Parker Studtmann and Mitch Seykora had two hits and two runs each.
Maddox Sullivan pitched all five innings, striking out eight with three hits scattered.
Iowa Central has now won 20 in a row, scoring at least 10 runs in 19 of those games. The Tritons host Iowa Lakes on Wednesday.
DMACC is now 11-15.
The Lakers, led by former Humboldt standout Chris Witzke, returned to the diamond on March 13 after a deadly auto accident that killed player Carter Johnson.
