Tritons win 12th straight contest

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Iowa Central softball squad extended its win streak to 12 with a pair of victories to close out the spring-break trip on Friday.

The Tritons (15-3 overall) defeated Bryant and Stratton College, 13-9, and Lake Michigan College, 10-6.

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Cadence Touney hit a grand slam to spark Friday’s 23-run onslaught. Jersey Hawf and Josephine Moore homered twice, and Natalie Rasmussen and Avery McKinney went deep as well.

Ex-St. Edmond all-stater Lauren Gibb tripled.

Jaidan Abel and Scarlett Gordon were the winning pitchers on Friday.

Iowa Central crushed Williston State (8-0) and Macomb Community College (10-0) here on Thursday. Gibb went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple in the opener. Rasmussen, Moore and Ella Schantz all drove in a pair.

Olivia Hedrick fired a two-hit shutout.

Josie Juhl worked five hitless innings from the circle in game two Thursday, striking out three. Rasmussen homered, going 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Jozie Kerr doubled twice and drove in two.

The Tritons, who went 10-0 on the Florida trip, return home on Wednesday to square off with NIACC for an ICCAC doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Rogers Park.
