Tritons run at Championships

TOPEKA, Kan. — The opening day of the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hit the track from Washburn University here Friday night, as several members of the Iowa Central team were in action.

With six of 20 events scored, the Triton women are fourth overall while the men sit in fifth. Iowa Western leads the women’s race with 30 points, as Iowa Central has 23.

On the men’s side, Butler is out front with 30 as the Tritons have 20.

Akram Mouaki and men’s distance medley relay each turned in runner-up performances for Iowa Central, as Mouaki scored a silver in the shot put. The relay of Soufyane Laaziz, Taha Ouchene, Said Rifi Loutfi and Saad Rifi Loutfi also finished second.

Janae Daws led the women with a third in the long jump, as Maeva Goune Tibbolo was fifth in the same event. Unitee Brown finished fifth in the shot put, Eden Brouwers was fifth in the Pentathlon and the distance medley relay placed fifth.

Iowa Central qualified seven for finals through prelim races, including the No. 1 time by Ouchene in the 800. Said Rifi Loutfi qualified alongside Ouchene, as Laaziz and Saad Rifi Loutfi advanced in the 1,000.

Mechak Linda Bula Bula (400), Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula (600) and Alivia Edens (1,000) each moved on.
