Tritons play for spot in Final Four
DANVILLE, Ill. — The Iowa Central men play for a spot in the NJCAA Div. II National Tournament semifinals here Thursday.
The Tritons (27-6 overall) take on Pima from the Mary Miller Center. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m.
A pair of ICCAC foes square off in the game after Iowa Central, with Des Moines Area playing Ellsworth. The other side of the bracket, Palm Beach faces Danville and Milwaukee Area gets Parkland.
The semifinals take place Friday night at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with the championship scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. Iowa Central would face either DMACC or Ellsworth with a win.
Earlier this week, the Tritons scored their first win at the national tournament since 1968 with a 69-50 victory over Schoolcraft. Aleix Sempere had 22 points and 15 rebounds, as Jalen Wynter added 16 points.
Iowa Central also reached the national field twice in 1989 and 2012 under Hall of Fame head coach Dennis Pilcher.
Pima (33-0) handled Davidson-Davie, 108-80, as Mason Hunt scored 30 points with five made 3-pointers. Brock Mendoza added 23 points and three other Aztecs reached double figures.
On the year, Pima averages 106 points per game, shooting 57 percent from the field and 42 percent from the 3-point line. The Aztecs reached the national semifinals last year, placing third.
