DES MOINES — The Iowa Central track and field team kicked off the outdoor season by competing in the Viking Relays hosted by Grand View this past weekend.

U’Nitee Brown, Angus Alberts and Haydn Stockdale all earned national invites in throwing events, with Brown and Alberts qualifying in the shot put. Stockdale, the reigning indoor national champion, scored his bid in the hammer throw.

“The majority of our team is still recovery or rebuilding from the indoor season and national championships,” said Dee Brown, Director of Track and Field at Iowa Central. “For the rest of them, this was a great, low-key, first competition with some gorgeous weather. Our throwers kicked things off with a few qualifiers and top marks so that was a great way to begin.”

Iowa Central heads to Pella for the Dutch Invitational this Saturday.
