Sweep for Iowa Central softball in Nebraska
The Iowa Central softball team picked up a pair of doubleheader sweeps against ICCAC foes Northeast and Central in Nebraska over the weekend.
With the victories, the Tritons (21-3 overall, 6-0 in the league) stretched their win streak to 18 in a row.
On Saturday, Iowa Central swept Northeast by scores of 4-1 and 3-1 from Ta-Ha-Zouka Park. Down early, the Tritons scored four unanswered to take the opener behind a 10-strikeout performance from Jillian French.
French allowed just three hits and walked only two, getting doubles from Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Cadence Touney, Josephine Moore and Kyra Kain. Kain and Natalie Rasmussen each drove in a run. Touney and ex-St. Edmond all-stater Lauren Gibb scored a run.
Touney, Southeast Valley grad Ellie Nolte, former Eagle Grove standout Addyson Jeske and Moore each had two hits in the nightcap. Touney, Jeske and Moore all drove in a run.
Moore had a home run. Nolte was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Inside the circle, Jaidan Abel struck out four and scattered six hits with one walk.
The Tritons took two from Central by scores of 11-9 and 11-5 in five innings on Sunday. Jersey Hawf had a bases-clearing hit early, as Iowa Central rallied with five in the sixth and an insurance run in the seventh to erase a 9-5 deficit.
Hawf finished with five RBI. Nolte drove in three with two hits. Gibb tallied two hits, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base.
Josie Juhl recorded the final eight outs for the win.
Abel struck out eight more in the nightcap in four innings of work. Jeske was 3-for-4 with two RBI, five stolen bases and two runs, Nolte had two hits and scored twice, and Moore plated a pair.
Iowa Central remains on the road, heading to Estherville on Wednesday for a doubleheader with Iowa Lakes. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
