The Fort Dodge boys soccer team dropped their opener to Sioux City East on Monday night by a final score of 4-1 inside Dodger Stadium.
First-year head coach Nic Huse’s debut saw FDSH scored its lone goal in the second half.
“We definitely played a little more physically (after the intermission),” Huse said. “They were really physical in the first half. I felt like we needed a half to get settled in and match the intensity.”
Fort Dodge’s lone goal came from Momo Rapas on an assist from Ayden Hernandez.
“Offensively, we were good in the midfield,” Huse said. “We started to attack hard, but we couldn’t break their back line.
“We just weren’t able to get any through passes and we have to be focused on that. In the second half, our fullbacks pressed and that helped us get a numbers advantage at times.”
For the first time out, Huse saw glimmers of hope. He also knows the Dodgers have to get back to work on a number of issues.
“I thought Jacob Moore, McKade Lunn, Mateo Ron and Madden Bailey played really well,” Huse said. “They showed a lot of grit.”
The Dodgers are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Sioux City North. That match is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
